Kampong Speu Sangkranta Attracts Nearly 2 Million Visitors Over Three Days

 According to a report from the Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Tourism, on April 16, 2026—the third and final day of the Khmer Traditional New Year celebration, as well as the closing day of the Kampong Speu Sangkranta event—approximately 1,712,000 national and international tourists visited the event.


These visitors came to enjoy the Kampong Speu Sangkranta activities held in Chbar Mon City, along with various tourist destinations across the province. Among them, more than 735,550 visitors attended the Sangkranta event in Chbar Mon City, including 910 foreign tourists.

  • A grand parade procession
  • A giant krama (scarf) stretching 80 meters
  • Traditional tug-of-war symbolizing the transition from the old year to the new year
  • Many traditional Khmer games
  • Performances of classical Khmer dances
  • Social dancing with traditional Khmer rhythms

These activities aimed to promote cultural awareness among the younger generation. It was also observed that many foreign tourists showed great interest and actively participated in the celebrations.

On this special occasion of the Khmer New Year, under the initiative of His Excellency the Provincial Governor and Lok Chumteav, a traditional Khmer dessert-making activity was organized. This included making palm-based sweets such as Num Doch Taa and palm cakes, highlighting the province’s identity as a region rich in palm trees.


This activity saw enthusiastic participation from youth, young women, and civil servants, promoting unity and understanding of the traditional food production process. In addition, more than 1,000,000 Khmer traditional cakes were distributed freely to both national and international visitors, allowing them to experience and enjoy authentic Khmer heritage flavors.
